Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 16th July 2019 His Grace Archbishop Amel Nona welcomed Senator Concetta Fierravanti- Wells in the St. Thomas Chaldean Eparchy. Senator Concetta is the liberal senator for New South wales, she came to discuss with His Grace all the possibilities that could make us a bigger group and stronger voice to speak and defend our right to have Religious Freedom and Freedom of Speech facing the current wave in Australia that is giving us all a great concern about our rights in living and practicing the manners of our faith.
During the meeting, His Grace Archbishop Bashar Warda the Bishop of the Chaldean Diocese of Erbil-Iraq has joined them talking extensively about the situation of the persecuted and suffering Christians and Yazidis who fled and experienced a great violence because of ISIS attack. They also discussed all the opportunities that could be helpful to aid those families inside Iraq and the refugee families in the surrounding countries.
His Grace Archbishop Amel Nona emphasized on the importance of protecting the Religious Freedom and speech affirming that the main reason of our people to leave their countries and come to settle in Australia is because they have experienced a dreadful persecution because of their faith. They believe that Australia is the country that respect and protect people rights and dignity to live according to their religious safely with no discrimination or fears. His Grace also added that this is our hope for Australia, to be always the place that respect and protect her people who are very appreciated to be welcomed and settled in such a beautiful country.
